Party Blow For Lloyd-Webber's New WhistleDate: 29 December 1997 Having closed in Washington DC without making it to Broadway, the next outing for Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's new musical Whistle Down the Wind is to be in London, where it will open on 30 June at the Aldwych Theatre . It's a dark tale, by Mary Hayley Bell, of a group of young children who mistake an escaped murderer, living rough, of being Jesus Christ. The story is best-known in its 1961 film version, starring Hayley Mills, who went on to feature in a number of classic Disney movies, notably Polyanna and In Search of the Castaways. The London opening looks set to be a low-key affair. A report this week in the Sunday Times said that there'll be no lavish opening party -- a feature of previous Lloyd Webber London openings -- just a small get-together for cast and angels. In contrast to the 2,000-person party he threw at London's plush Savoy Hotel for the first night of Sunset Boulevard, Lloyd Webber was quoted in the London paper as saying: 'If we have a hit with Whistle...then we shall have a modest party a year later .'
