Great Balls of Fire Burns Out at CambridgeDate: 7 December 1999The latest rock biopic, Great Balls of Fire, the story of American rock and roller Jerry Lee Lewis, which opened at the Cambridge Theatre on 6 October 1999 following previews from 1 October, has announced an early closing for 18 December 1999. The musical had been booking to 26 February 2000. Great Balls of Fire replaced the revival of classic musical Grease, which had been playing for six years in the West End, first at the Dominion and then at the Cambridge Theatre. Like Grease, Great Balls of Fire is set in the era of 1950s rock and roll. It follows the story of one of the decade's most controversial musicians, Lee Lewis, as he sets the world alight with his new brand of music and then storms into infamy when he marries a teenage girl. Billy Geraghty, a former Buddy, stars as the singer. Great Balls of Fire, by Todd W M Ristau and Richard Cameron, is directed by Simon Usher.
