Digging for Ladies Tours English Gardens
Date: 5 May 1999
A unique open-air theatrical event returns to gardens across the country this summer. After last year's successful tour, Jyll Bradley's Digging for Ladies, a comedy celebrating women and gardening, will be touring to gardens in eight English cities this year. The tour kicks off at Himley Hall's gardens in Dudley on 29 May and will continue to 1 August 1999.
Four green-fingered lady gardeners are awaiting the eclipse. Armed with hoes and shears, they embark on a horticultural excursion in pursuit of their own special Eden. In addition to showcasing classic English eccentricity and innuendo, Digging for Ladies explores gardening as a means of personal expression and a metaphor for buried desires.
Digging for Ladies will be performed at Himley Hall in Dudley, near Birmingham (29-31 May); Hyde's Hall in Dinton, near Salisbury (4-5 June); Waterperry Gardens, near Oxford (18-20 June); Royal Observatory Gardens, Greenwich (25-27 June); St John's Lodge Gardens, Regent's Park, London (30 June - 4 July, 7-11 July); Goldney Hall, Bristol (17-18 July); Goodnestone Park Gardens, near Canterbury (22-25 July); and Charleston Farmhouse, near Brighton (30 July - 1 August).
