In an expected move, the Arts Council's new businessman chairman Gerry Robinson, of the Granada Group, has asked all of the Council's 23 members to step down. Yesterday, the Council confirmed that this would happen over the coming months and that Robinson would preside over a reduced council of ten members.
Some of the current members will be asked to sit on the new body, but there will be no role for regional arts board chairs. Instead, the aim of the reformed council would be to have a much broader national overview. It is expected to include more business leaders, such as Robinson himself. Some powers are likely to be devolved to regional arts boards.
