Royal Court Explores Mamet s NeighbourhoodDate: 3 April 1998David Mamet s latest The Old Neighbourhood will receive its European premiere at the Royal Court Downstairs (Duke of York's) on 23 June 1998 (with previews from 17 June). Currently playing on Broadway, The Old Neighbourhood is a trilogy of one-act plays. The autobiographical stories explore the relationships between husband and wife, brother and sister, childhood friends and former lovers who must deal with a legacy that shapes the rest of their lives. The plays are set in and around Mamet's native Chicago. The production is packed with award-winners before it's even opened. Patrick Marber, who directs, won both the Laurence Olivier and Critics Circle Awards for Best New Play and the Evening Standard Drama Award for Best New Comedy for his play Closer which has just transferred from the National to the Lyric Theatre. Star Zoë Wanamaker won a Laurence Olivier for Best Actress this year for her performance in Electra at the Donmar Warehouse. Related Content |
