Gold's 50 Revolutions Opens at Whitehall

Murray Gold's 50 Revolutions, the next production in the Oxford Stage Company's residency at the West End's Whitehall Theatre, opens 10 September (previews from 7 September) and continues until 25 September 1999.

Directed by Oxford Stage's artistic director Dominic Dromgoole and driven by an original soundtrack also by Gold, the new play peeks into the lives of a bunch of disparate characters, life's lovers and losers, as they strive to make their way in a dog eat dog world - from a couple of homeless vagrants to a top TV celebrity, a macho bouncer to an actor struggling with his love life. Set in a modern metropolis, 50 Revolutions interweaves 50 short episodes to give a kaleidoscopic view of contemporary city life.

The young, multi-racial cast features TV actors Kulvinder Ghir, Amanda Root, Nicola Walker and Michele Austin. Murray Gold wrote the the acclaimed adaptation of Voltaire's Candide at the Gate. His other credits include Glue Wedding and Resolution at the fringe Battersea Arts Centre, Channel Four's TV series Queer as Folk and Love in the 21st Century, and BBC TV's Vanity Fair (for which he was nominated for a BAFTA). Gold has written music for TV, radio, theatre and film.

50 Revolutions is followed by Oxford Stage's revival of John Whiting's 1951 comic drama Penny For a Song which is currently on tour and which opens at the Whitehall on 31 September.
