Lausanne Win For Elmhurst

Elmhurst School for Dance student Lewis Turner has won the Contemporary Dance Prize at the prestigious Prix de Lausanne dance competition.

Lewis competed against young dancers from around the world at the annual competition, winning with the piece Libera Me by Cathy Marston, director and choreographer of Bern Ballett, Switzerland.

Desmond Kelly, artistic director of the Birmingham based Elmhurst said: “Lewis is one of the most focused hard working dancers I have had the pleasure to teach. His success at the Prix de Lausanne is a reflection of his admirable work ethic. Elmhurst is very proud of him.”

Created in 1973, The Prix de Lausanne is an international competition for young dancers with winners including many future starts (Carlos Acosta and Steven McRae, to name just two). It is open to young dancers of all nationalities aged 15 to 18 who are not yet professionals.
