Carlos Acosta Programme Sells OutDate: 19 November 2009 Carlos Acosta's show at Sadler’s Wells has sold out, the theatre has announced. Apollo and Other Works is a mixed bill of ballets that explore the male muse in dance, with Acosta appearing in three of the four pieces that make up the programme. In Part One, Jerome Robbins’ Afternoon of a Faun is performed by Acosta and English National Ballet principal dancer Begoña Cao. Also in Part One choreographer Adam Hougland’s new work Young Apollo is performed to Britten's piece for piano and string orchestra. Part One ends with Suite of Dances, a duet between Acosta and young cellist Natalie Clein. In Part Two Acosta dances the lead role in George Balanchine’s Apollo. The three muses are danced by Begoña Cao, Daria Klimentova, and Anaïs Chalendard. Acosta’s dates at Sadler’s Wells end a busy year for the Cuban-born star, which included performances with The Royal Ballet, including its first ever visit to Cuba, and his headlining Manchester International Festival where this Apollo programme was first performed. He continues to guest with The Royal Ballet, and will appear with Ballet Nacional de Cuba for the company’s debut at the London Coliseum from Tuesday 30 March – Sunday 11 April 2010. - by Sarah Frater Related ContentBack to Dance Homepage
