National announces details of War Horse's first UK tour

Date: 2 October 2012

The National Theatre has announced details of the first UK tour of War Horse, which commences a ten month, nine-venue tour of the UK and Ireland on 27 September 2013.

War Horse will visit the Theatre Royal, Plymouth, Birmingham Hippodrome; The Lowry in Salford Quays, the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh; The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton; Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Dublin, Sunderland Empire; the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford and the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff.

National Theatre producer Chris Harper said: "We are delighted that our production of War Horse, which is currently running in London, New York, Toronto and is on a US Tour, with future productions in Australia and Berlin, will soon be seen by audiences all over the UK and Dublin. War Horse comes home."

War Horse premiered at the NT Olivier in October 2007, returning for a second run the following year and transferring to the West End's New London theatre in April 2009.

The multi award-winning production is based on a novel by Michael Morpurgo, adapted by Nick Stafford and presented in association with Handspring Puppet Company. Directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, it is designed by Rae Smith.
