Icke Stages Spring Tour of Romeo & Juliet for Headlong
Date: 12 December 2011

Headlong Theatre will mount a nine-week tour of Romeo and Juliet from the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton next February, directed by associate Robert Icke.

The tour, which is co-produced by Nottingham Playhouse and the Nuffield in association with Hull Truck Theatre, will start in Southampton on 7 February (previews from 2 February) before travelling to Guilford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Salisbury Playhouse, Cambridge Arts Theatre and Nottingham Playhouse, finishing in Hull on 7 April 2012.

Headlong, which toured it's National Theatre co-production Earthquakes in London earlier this year, is helmed by artistic director Rupert Goold. The company's previous productions including the multi award-winning Enron as well as Six Characters in Search of an Author, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot and King Lear with Pete Postlethwaite.

Casting for the title roles in Headlong's Romeo and Juliet has been announced as Daniel Boyd and Catrin Stewart.

Boyd, son of RSC artistic director Michael Boyd, has previously appeared in Changing Lines at Oran Mor and Plasticine at Glasgow's Citizens Theatre. He will soon be seen in Goold’s 2012 film version of Richard II.

Stewart's stage credits include Buried Child at Leicester Curve and The Lady from the Sea at The Royal Exchange as well as television appearances on Doctor Who and Misfits. Further casting has still to be announced.

Headlong associate Robert Icke recently worked with Goold to conceive and develop the company's acclaimed site-specific exploration of 9/11 and its legacy, Decade, which was staged at St Katharine Docks.

Founder of the Arden Theatre company in 2003, Icke has directed Julius Caesar, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night, An Inspector Calls, Hughie, The Zoo Story, Richard III and Journey's End.

His other directing credits includes Catalysta, The Alchemist, Motortown, Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing and Coat. His work as associate and assistant director include productions with Thea Sharrock and Michael Attenborough.
