Creation Theatre - Summer Season

Creation Theatre - Summer Season

Date: 10 June 2009

Creation’s new Twelfth Night opens next month at Saïd Business School Amphitheatre. Creation Theatre Company will be performing Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night this summer at the Saïd Business School Amphitheatre 9 July – 5 Sept. This classic comedy of mistaken identities will be directed by Heather Davies who directed Creation’s successful production of The Taming of the Shrew in 2007. Twelfth Night will have special live music– a contemporary take on Elizabethan music - performed by the actor/musicians and the whole production is set on a beach with, Heather says, references to several modern beach-set films and TV programmes such as ‘Lost’, ‘Castaway’ & ‘Gilligans Island’.

The venue of the Saïd Business School Amphitheatre is a new one for Creation and this impressive site, designed by Dixon Jones, the architects responsible for the new buildings at London’s Royal Opera House, will make an exciting setting for one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies. Creation will be the first professional theatre company to perform here since the building opened in 2001.

After two successive summers of pretty dreadful weather Creation Theatre Company, described by the BBC as ‘The jewel in the crown of Oxford’s arts’, are seeking to reassure their audience that they can book for this new production with full confidence because the company have sought to ensure that, whatever the elements decide to throw at the UK this year their audiences will be protected.

On a balmy summer’s evening the open air amphitheatre will be the perfect location to enjoy Shakespeare’s wit and romance but if the rain does pour down an alternative indoor performance space at the Business School will be used. Creation also offer blankets and cushions for hire to keep audience members cosy while they watch the shows and hot and cold drinks and food before the show and in the interval in the form of a barbeque buffet and picnic hampers to share.

David Parrish, Founder & Producer of Creation Theatre Company, said today, "Our 'Theatre Made in Oxford' Logo draws attention to the fact that when so much London theatre tours the provinces it is hard for companies like ours to keep going. Even without permanent local, statutory or Arts Council funding, Creation is a prolific producer of exciting theatre here in Oxford. Our office is here, we rehearse here, we deliver educational workshops here and we perform here. We are proud to create theatre in and for, such a great County and City and to be in a position to contribute economic and visitor value as well as innovative and high standard entertainment."

Booking for Twelfth Night is now open - call the Box Office on 01865 766266, or buy tickets online at www.creationtheatre.co.uk.
