Ben Batt will join the previously announced Maxine Peake in Sarah Frankcom's revival of A Streetcar Named Desire, opening at the Royal Exchange, Manchester in September.

Batt, whose other stage credits include As You Like It at the Royal Exchange, and Making Noise Quietly at the Donmar, will play Stanley opposite Peake's Blanche DuBois.

Also joining the cast is Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Hope, Royal Court) as Stella.

The cast is completed by Michelle Butterly, Sandra Cole, Etta Fusi, Reuben Johnson, Youssef Kerkour, Reece Noi and Ryan Pope.

Peake join forces with Frankcom once again, following her portrayal of Hamlet in 2013 and The Skriker last year.

Tennessee Williams' play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1948 and follows Stella and husband Stanley in New Orleans as they are visited by Stella's difficult sister Blanche DuBois. DuBois arrives from Mississippi after her family home is lost to creditors.

A Streetcar Named Desire runs at the Manchester Royal Exchange from 13 September, with previews from 8 September.
