As previously announced, later this month will see the UK premiere at the Opera House, Manchester, of the star-studded new musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, in a strictly limited run prior to the West End. The show runs here in Manchester from 12 – 22 February.

The show is directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winning Jerry Mitchell, and stars Robert Lindsay, Rufus Hound, Katherine Kingsley, Samantha Bond and John Marquez.

It has music and lyrics by Drama Desk Award winner David Yazbek and book by the Golden Globe and Emmy-Award winning Jeffery Lane. The show will play the Opera House, Manchester and Aylesbury Waterside before opening at the Savoy Theatre, London on March 10.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is based on the legendary 1988 film starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin, directed by Frank Oz. It will be the UK premiere of this new production, which has been reconceived and reimagined for the UK stage.

The show is centred in the French Riviera, where the decadent world of sophisticated conman Lawrence Jameson is set to come crashing down with the arrival of larger-than-life Freddy Benson – a conman of an entirely different order. Soon realising the town ain’t big enough for the both of them, the two find themselves going head to head in the con of their lives, pulling out all of the stops in a bid for the affections of millionaire soap heiress Christine Colgate. Little do they know what they’ve let themselves in for.

Tony and BAFTA award winning Robert Lindsay (Me And My Girl, Becket, Oliver!, My Family) and Rufus Hound (One Man Two Guv’nors, Celebrity Juice, and this year’s Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special) star as the conmen Lawrence Jameson and Freddy Benson, competing for the riches (and even the heart) of the young impressionable heiress, Christine Colgate, played by Katherine Kingsley (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Singin’ in the Rain).

Samantha Bond will play Muriel Eubanks, a glamorous divorcee looking for love in Beaumont-sur-Mer on the French Riviera, and will be joined by John Marquez as Andre Thibault, Beaumont-sur-Mer’s Chief of Police.

Further casting includes Lizzy Connolly as Jolene, Gavin Alex, Darren Bennett, Niamh Bracken, Lisa Bridge, Darren Carnall, Andy Conaghan, Lizzy Connolly, Phoebe Coupe, Claire Doyle, Alice Fearn, Selina Hamilton, Ian Knauer, Lisa Mathieson, Zak Nemorin, Genevieve Nicole, Javier Santos, Todd Talbot, Dominic Tribuzio, Jon Tsouras and Zara Warren.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels has set and costume design by Olivier Award winning Peter McKintosh. It is a co-production between the Ambassador Theatre Group, Jerry Mitchell Productions and Tulchin/Bartner Productions.
