Vanessa Redgrave to receive Gielgud Award at UK Theatre Awards

The actress has starred in more than 35 West End and Broadway productions over the course of her career

Vanessa Redgrave will receive the Gielgud Award for Excellence in the Dramatic Arts at this year's UK Theatre Awards.

The actress rose to prominence in 1961 while performing in As You Like It with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Since then, she has gone on to perform in 35 West End and Broadway productions, over 80 films and earn six Oscar nominations. In 1977, she won the Oscar for Best Supporting actress for her role in Julia.

On stage, the 79-year-old most recently appeared alongside Ralph Finnes in Richard III as Queen Margaret at the Almeida.

Previous winners of the award include Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Derek Jacobi, and Patrick Stewart.
