5. Jane Wenham: The Witch of Walkern – Arcola Theatre

BAFTA-winning Rebecca Lenkiewicz premiered her early plays The Night Season and Her Naked Skin at the National Theatre, but she returns to the Arcola with a new play about witchcraft inspired by events in a Hertfordshire village. The Guardian called it a heady brew of sex and sorcery, just what we need to fend off the January blues.

4. P'yongyang – Finborough Theatre

After the furore surrounding the release of The Interview last year, anyone tackling North Korea on stage has to be commended for courage alone. But P'yongyang promises much more than balls, it's written by Verity Bargate Award-winning In-Sook Chappell and stars Daniel York for starters.

3. London International Mime Festival – various locations

If a beret-topped man with black and white striped t-shirt is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of mime, then you are due a trip to the Mime Festival. Now in its 40th year, LIMF offers a month jam-packed with physical and visual theatre, films, workshops and discussions at venues around the capital. 2. Grey Gardens – Southwark Playhouse

Albert and David Maysles' 1975 documentary film depicting the everyday lives of two reclusive upper class women was preserved in the United States National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" in 2010. The Broadway adaptation won three Tony Awards in 2006, so there's a lot of hype for its European premiere, no pressure then guys.

1. Guys and Dolls – Savoy Theatre

Chichester Festival Theatre's production of Frank Loesser's seminal musical transfers to the West End starring David Haig as Nathan Detroit, Siubhan Harrison as Sarah Brown and Jamie Parker (soon to be Harry Potter) as Sky Masterson. We're not lying when we say we're losing sleep with excitement.
