9. 42nd Street
Theatre Royal Drury Lane, currently booking until 14 October 2017
The original West End production in 1984 gave Catherine Zeta Jones her big break, 33 years later and the tap dancing spectacular is back at Drury Lane with the biggest cast in London led by Grammy Award-winner Sheena Easton, Tom Lister and Norman Bowman. With songs including "We’re In The Money" and "42nd Street", and one of the lushest sets in town, you're guaranteed a great night out.

8. Legally Blonde
On tour from 18 September 2017
As if touring the UK in a superb production of Rent, hosting the WhatsOnStage Awards live stream and representing Great Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest this week wasn't enough, Lucie Jones has signed on to a new touring production of Legally Blonde. Based on the film starring Reese Witherspoon, the musical sees Elle Woods swap the sorority girls for Harvard Law in an attempt to prove she's not just a pretty face. The cast also includes EastEnders' Rita Simons and not one, but two dogs.

7. The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?
Theatre Royal Haymarket, until 24 June 2017
Don't be put off by the title, unless you're not keen on the idea of a married man falling in love with a four legged horned mammal. Edward Albee's tour de force stars Homeland's Damian Lewis alongside the wonderful Sophie Okonedo.

6. Kiss Me, Kate
London Coliseum, 20 to 30 June 2018
After a run at Leeds Grand Theatre in May 2018, Opera North's production of Cole Porter's musical, based on Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew will travel down the M1 to the London Coliseum next summer. Featuring the songs "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" and "Too Darn Hot", the hotly-anticipated production is directed by Jo Davies with choreography by Will Tuckett.

5. Matilda
Currently booking at the Cambridge Theatre to 17 December 2017, and on tour from March 2018
Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly's much-loved adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel zoomed up the WOS charts last month after it was announced the production would be hitting the road for the first time next year. The tour will open at Curve in March 2018, before touring to a whole host of venues around the country. Time to get a little bit "Naughty"…

4. Dick Whittington

Oh no it's not… Oh yes it is… Apparently it is time to start thinking about pantomime season. The temperature has barely risen into double digits for the first time this year and initial casting has been announced for the Palladium's pantomime, which is back following last year's highly praised Cinderella. And fans of that production will be happy to know that Julian Clary, Nigel Havers and Paul Zerdin all return for this year's show. Oh yes they do…

3. An American in Paris

Christopher Wheeldon's musical with beautiful designs by Bob Crowley won the hearts and stars of the nation's theatre critics with a cacophony of five star reviews, including our own. If you're looking for other reasons to book this show there's the brilliant (and beautiful) lead pairing of Leanne Cope and Robert Fairchild, the comic pairing of Haydn Oakley and David Seadon Young, or the brilliant performance from Zoe Rainey. Take your pick.

2. The Band
On tour from 8 September
Despite it's title, let's choose to forget about the 2008 Take That musical which toured the UK and played the West End for six months. Because there's a new Take That musical in town and this time, Barlow and co are on board. Following a TV reality show to cast a band of lads as good looking and talented as the fab five were in the '90s, The Band is about to embark on a UK tour before a hoped-for West End transfer. Fangirls/boys may be disappointed to know that the show is not a bio-play but uses the group's music to tell the story of a group of girls finding their way in life.

1. Hamlet
Harold Pinter Theatre, 9 June and 2 September
We're not saying that if you put a Sherlock star in a show then it will sell lots of tickets, but if you put a Sherlock star in a show then it will sell lots of tickets. It also helps that this is a bloody brilliant production and received plaudits from pretty much everyone for its run at the Almeida. Alongside Andrew Scott in the titular role is Juliet Stevenson as Gertrude and Jessica Brown Findlay as Ophelia. To buy or not to buy? Definitely the latter.
