Tom Hiddleston will star in Betrayal as part of Jamie Lloyd's Pinter at the Pinter season.

The star teased the announcement last night by releasing a trailer on his Twitter feed, provoking speculation that a new production could be on the cards. The production was confirmed this morning, with the news that the show will run from 5 March 2019, with a opening night on 13 March, to 1 June.

General on sale for tickets is at 9am on 30 November.

The 15 November 1978 was the first time Harold Pinter's classic play Betrayal was first performed. The announcement marks 40 years to the day since the moment.

Hiddleston said: "Betrayal is a masterpiece. Jamie Lloyd's Pinter at the Pinter season is terrific and I am so pleased that he's asked me to be part of it."

The play charts a seven-year romance, captured in reverse chronological order. It was first performed at the National Theatre and starred Penelope Wilton and Michael Gambon.

This will be the first time Hiddleston appears on a West End stage since his production of Coriolanus, directed by Josie Rourke at the Donmar Warehouse.
