A new musical about the life of music legend Tina Turner is in development, it has been announced.

Stage Entertainment are working on the show, which will be written by The Mountaintop writer Katori Hall, with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins. Phyllida Lloyd, who directed musical Mamma Mia!, is to helm the project.

Turner commented: "We have been working on the musical for over a year now and today I am delighted to be able to share our news as we begin the next chapter of our journey.

"It has been wonderful to collaborate with Katori and Phyllida and to have my story nurtured by such an amazing creative team is thrilling. London has always had a very special place in my heart and it’s wonderful to be back."

The creative and producing teams met today to present a workshop of the piece.

The 77 year-old Turner is famous for songs such as "What's Love Got To Do With It" and "Proud Mary". She arrived on the music scene performing with her then husband Ike Turner in the 70s.

More details on the show will be announced in due course.
