The Hired Man to open in London

The concert will run at Cadogan Hall in September

Howard Goodall and Melvyn Bragg's 1984 musical The Hired Man will receive its first major concert revival in over twenty years.

Running at London's Cadogan Hall on 22 September, the concert will feature a cast of West End performers and will be narrated by Bragg, whose novel the musical was based on.

Bragg is is a British broadcaster and author and is best known for his work with ITV as editor and presenter of the The South Bank Show whilst Goodall recently enjoyed success in the West End having composed and orchestrated Bend It Like Beckham.

The Hired Man is set in the agricultural and industrial heartlands of Cumbria at the turn of the 20th century and follows the lives of John and Emily Tallentire as war looms across the continent.

The production, which earned four Olivier nominations when it premiered in 1984, will feature musical direction from Andrew Linnie (The Commitments) with projections by designer Barret Hodgson.

Casting is yet to be announced.

The Hired Man will play the Cadogan Hall on 22 September. Tickets are now on sale through Cadogan Hall.
