The 39 Steps to close in September

The comedy has been in the West End for 9 years

The West End production of The 39 Steps will close in September, following a nine-year run.

The WhatsOnStage, Olivier and Tony Award-winning comedy, based on John Buchan's spy thriller, will close on 5 September. It will have been seen by over 3 million people worldwide.

By the time the show closes, it will have played the 5th highest number of performances of any play in West End history.

The current cast of Maria Aitken's production includes Daniel Llewelyn-Williams (Richard Hannay), Kelly Hotten (Pamela/Annabella/Margaret), Mike Goodenough (Man), and Gary Sefton (Man).

The 39 Steps opened at the Criterion Theatre in September 2006, following short runs at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and London’s Tricycle Theatre. The original cast included Rupert Degas, Charles Edwards, Simon Gregor and Catherine McCormack.

The team behind the show are bringing a version of Ben Hur to the Tricycle Theatre this Christmas.
