Gary Barlow has revealed plans to create a Take That musical in the vein of Jersey Boys.

The singer/songwriter told The Sun: "The Take That musical has got to happen. I think it's a great story. I watched Jersey Boys and it's not too dissimilar to our story. I would love to get that on stage."

Barlow recently spoke to WhatsOnStage about his work on screen-to-stage musical Finding Neverland, revealing that the project had relighted his fire for musical theatre.

"I've certainly got a whole new respect [for musicals]," he said. "When I go to the theatre now I'm so well behaved because I know the effort and the passion and the lengths that people have gone to."

Of the the Take That show, he added: "If given a chance to do it I would take it on now, definitely. We've got 25 years of music so the hard bit is done. I'd look to put it on a stage in the next five years."

An unofficial jukebox musical, Never Forget, which ran in the West End in 2008, centred on a Take That tribute band and used Barlow's songs.
