School of Rock, a new screen-to-stage musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Glenn Slater and Julian Fellowes will premiere on Broadway next year.

The show, which is directed by Laurence Connor (Miss Saigon), will open at the Winter Garden Theatre on 6 December 2015.

Inspired by the 2003 film that starred Jack Black, School of Rock – The Musical tells the story of a down-on-his-luck wannabe rock star named Dewey Finn, who poses as a substitute teacher at a prep school and enlists his fifth-graders to form a rock group and conquer Battle of the Bands.

The show will feature songs from the film alongside new compositions by Lloyd Webber and Slater, who previously collaborated on Love Never Dies.

This will be Lloyd Webber's first musical to premiere on Broadway since 1971's Jesus Christ Superstar. Book writer Fellowes is best known as the creator of ITV's Downton Abbey.
