Phyllida Lloyd: 'Female producers have made theatre a more user-friendly world for women'

The director chats to Lucy Kerbel at the latest Tonic Celebrates event

Tonic Theatre's Lucy Kerbel chats to the Tony Award-nominated director Phyllida Lloyd onstage following Tonic Celebrates.

Tonic Celebrates brings together a variety of female voices to celebrate their work and discuss pressing and relevant issues in the theatre industry. Previous panellists have included director Marianne Elliott, actress Dame Harriet Walter, Globe artistic director Emma Rice, and Tricycle artistic director Indhu Rubasingham.

Lloyd directed Mamma Mia! in the West End, on Broadway and across a worldwide tour, as well as making her feature film debut directing the big screen adaptation starring Meryl Streep. Her other credits include The Shakespeare Trilogy (which was awarded five stars in the WhatsOnStage review), Mary Stuart and the film adaptation of The Iron Lady. She is soon to direct the world premiere of Tina – The Musical.
