My Top 5 Showtunes: Emma Hatton

We catch up with ”Wicked”’s leading lady to find out which showtunes she could not live without

When she is not painted head-to-toe in green and belting "Defying Gravity", Wicked's Emma Hatton loves to rock out to other showtunes.

We caught up with Emma to ask: "If you were stranded on a desert island, which five showtunes could you not live without?"

1. "I'm Here" from The Colour Purple.

EH: I was lucky enough to get a ticket to see this production at the Menier Chocolate Factory and played this song on repeat after watching the show. It is an incredibly moving and beautiful number, about learning to love yourself and that, no matter the distance between you and your loved ones, the bond cannot be broken.

2. "Nothing Stops Another Day" from Ghost.

EH: Lyrically and melodically, I adore this song. It is about hope and keeping perspective when you are at your lowest. Just beautiful.

3. "Someone to Watch Over Me" from Crazy for You.

EH: I am a huge fan of the music of George and Ira Gershwin. I could have chosen any one of their numbers but this particular song has always been special to me. It's so vulnerable and charming.

4. "Summertime" from Porgy and Bess.

EH: I fell in love with this number during my days fronting a jazz and blues band, before I was aware that it was from a musical. There are so many wonderful versions and interpretations of it… Can I take them all please?!

5. "We Are the Champions" from ''We Will Rock You".

Not strictly a showtune but I have such special memories of performing in We Will Rock You. It was a dream of mine and to have played both female leads before it closed… I feel so lucky. This number was always the one that got me! The atmosphere and the buzz on the stage during this number was incomparable. Very, very special.
