Olivier's host and musical theatre star Michael Ball has been announced as the new presenter of the BBC Radio Two Sunday morning slot.

The show, which was originally hosted by the late Terry Wogan and entitled Weekend Wogan, will now air on Sunday mornings between 11am and 1pm and will be renamed The Michael Ball Show.

Ball described how "honoured" he was to be asked to return to Sunday morning radio with BBC Two and went on pay tribute to Wogan: "I learned so much from my great friend and mentor Sir Terry Wogan. He was simply the best."

Bob Shennan, controller of Radio Two commented: "High-quality entertainment is at the core of public service broadcasting. Sir Terry was a master of it. Michael Ball is in that fine tradition… We are adding some exciting new programmes for our audiences – programmes which are completely unique and totally distinctive."

Ball currently hosts a radio show on BBC Two on Sunday evenings. From 10 April, he will take over the new position on Sunday mornings. Richard Madeley, who has presented the programme since December, will present the show for 10 weeks each year.
