Ed Miliband joins Martin Freeman and Tamsin Greig for opening night of Labour of Love

James Graham’s new play opened in the West End last night

James Graham's new political comedy, Labour of Love, opened at the Noel Coward Theatre last night and invited guests included Ed Miliband, David Dimbleby and Elbow frontman Guy Garvey.

Jeremy Herrin's production stars Martin Freeman and Tamsin Greig as a Labour MP and his constituency agent.

In her five-star review for WhatsOnStage, Sarah Crompton said she "left the theatre punching the air" adding; "there is something exhilarating about its energy and its passion."

The Michael Grandage Company and Headlong co-production is set away from Westminster and in the traditional northern heartlands of the party.

The cast also features Rachael Stirling, Kwong Loke, Dickon Tyrrell and Susan Wokoma. Greig takes over from the previously billed Sarah Lancashire who recently withdrew from the production on doctor's advice.

Labour of Love runs at the Noel Coward Theatre until 2 December.
