Kathryn Hunter to play title role in all-female Cyrano de Bergerac

Russell Bolam will direct the production in February 2016

Initial casting has been announced for an all-female version of Glyn Maxwell‘s adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac, which will see Olivier Award-winner Kathryn Hunter take on the titular role.

The production, directed by Russell Bolam for Southwark Playhouse, opens on 22 February 2016 running until 19 March.

Hunter's stage work includes title roles in Richard III, King Lear and The Skriker (Time Out Best Actress Award). She received an Olivier Award for best actress for her performance in The Visit (National Theatre/Complicite). Her film and television credits include: Harry Potter and the Order the Phoenix, Mike Leigh’s All or Nothing and Silent Witness.

Russell Bolam's credits include Three Sisters and The Seagull (Southwark Playhouse) and Uncle Vanya (St James Theatre).

Movement is by Marcello Magni, with designs by Anthony Lamble and sound and composition by Harry Blake.
