Jenna Russell has been announced to join Kit Harington in Jamie Lloyd's production of Doctor Faustus.

The Grey Gardens and Urinetown star will play the demon Mephistopheles, a role usually played by a male.

The cast also includes Jade Anouka (Chef, Hamlet), Tom Edden (One Man Two Guvnors, Les Miserables), Danielle Flett (Hatched 'n' Dispatched) Brian Gilligan (The Commitments), Forbes Masson (Mr Foote's Other Leg), Craig Stein (Wicked) and Gabby Wong (Volpone).

The production has also announced a three-week extension and will now run at the Duke of York's Theatre until 25 June.

Christopher Marlowe's 1592 tragedy, which centres around Faustus making a pact with devil and the cost of wealth and fame, will include two acts by Colin Teevan, replacing the middle acts to offer a fresh perspective.

The production will be designed by Soutra Gilmour, with lighting by Jon Clark, and music and sound by Ben and Max Ringham.

Doctor Faustus will run at the Duke of York's Theatre from 25 April to 25 June.
