Idina Menzel will sing the National Anthem at this year's Super Bowl on 1 February.

The musical theatre star tweeted that she is "so humbled and honoured" to have been asked to perform the patriotic number, which has previously been performed by people including Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Billy Joel, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys.

Fans can watch the Super Bowl XLIX live from Arizona on Channel 4.

Idina Menzel is known for originating the roles of Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway and in London, for which she won numerous awards including one of our own WhatsOnStage Awards, and Maureen in Rent. She has also released several solo albums as well as touring the US and the UK, and was the voice of Elsa in Disney's blockbuster Frozen, in which she sang the Oscar-winning song "Let It Go".
