New report shows strong box office figures in 2015

According to a report by Society of London Theatre, 2015 was a healthy year in London’s theatre world

Box office figures published by the Society of London Theatre show that 2015 was a strong year for London theatre.

Gross revenue (£633,778,537) was up 1.6 per cent on 2014, and average weekly attendances increased to 283,511.

The highest weekly attendance of 432,310 was between 28 December 2015 and 3 January 2016. Advance sales increased 14 per cent, peaking at over £107 million in December.

There was a slight increase in the average price paid for a ticket up from £42.29 in 2014 to £42.99 in 2015.

The figures were compiled by the Society of London Theatre (SOLT) and were taken from all major theatres, both commercial and grant aided in London.

Attendance of musicals went up four per cent on 2014, while attendance of plays went down by five per cent. There were two fewer number of productions in 2015 than there were in 2014.
