'We should drop acid, not bombs': Elaine Paige and the original cast of Hair celebrate the show's 50th anniversary

The show opened in New York in 1967 before coming to the West End in 1968

Hair is currently running at the Vaults in London, to coincide with the musical's 50th anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, the show hosted a special gala for the evening, and WhatsOnStage went down to chat to the original cast.

With guests including Elaine Paige, Paul Nicholas and original Hair creator James Rado, the evening was a walk down memory lane, while also reflecting on why the show is still so pertinent.

Nicholas met his wife on the production, while both Paige and Patti Boulaye saw Hair as the start of their careers.

This production, which transferred from Manchester, was hailed as 'a desperate plea for tolerance and kindness' in the WhatsOnStage review, with the opening number being a particularly poignant moment.

Hair runs at the Vaults until 13 January.
