We Will Rock You Freddie statue 'stolen' by Queen drummer Taylor

The 20 foot statue of Queen frontman Mercury was somewhat of a landmark until the show’s closure

When We Will Rock You closed in May after 12 years in the West End, theatregoers everywhere mused about the final resting place of one of the capital's most popular statues; not Nelson atop his column but the 20 foot statue of Freddie Mercury that stood above the door of the Dominion Theatre.

It has now come to light that instead of taking pride of place on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, as suggested by some ambitious folk, the giant statue now resides in Queen drummer Roger Taylor's garden.

Author and Playwright Ben Elton told the Radio Times "It's in Roger Taylor's garden, which I believe Brian May is not happy with. Freddie was their brother, they were a collective, so Roger or Brian should have it. I think Brian was away. So, Roger stole Freddie from Brian."

We Will Rock You closed in May this year after being seen by more than 16 million worldwide. Rumours of a sequel surfaced shortly after its closure but more information is yet to be revealed.
