To celebrate the 30th birthday of Les Miserables, singer and musical theatre actress Frances Ruffelle has released a YouTube video of a unique version of On my Own.

Ruffelle originated the role of Eponine when it first arrived in London and recorded this intriguing version to feature on her French themed album I Say Yeh-Yeh. Watch the full video and recording below.

"I felt that On My Own was a wonderful part of my life such a long time ago and that it was better to leave it behind," said Ruffelle. "But [her record producer Gwyneth Herbert] persuaded me to record it again and she came up with such a fun arrangement. I am so happy that I listened to her and feel this new version is a lovely fun way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Les Miserables."

Today is the 30th anniversary of the premiere of Les Miserables. The production opened 30 years ago today at the Barbican Theatre in London. There is a gala performance tonight at the Queen's Theatre which will feature Alfie Boe, Colm Wilkinson, Roger Allam and Ruffelle herself.
