Firebird transfers to Trafalgar Studios

Phil Davies' debut play Firebird will transfer to Trafalgar Studios in February 2016.

The production, which premiered at Hampstead Downstairs in September, is billed as a thriller which illustrates how young people can easily be exploited and fall victim to sexual abuse.

Firebird will be directed by Hampstead AD Edward Hall and feature at Trafalgar Studios as part of the Hampstead Downstairs season, following Four Minutes Twelve Seconds and The Wasp.

Hall commented on the transfer, describing how theatre has a power to provoke discussion and sometimes bring about change and added that "without the platform for new writing, this power rapidly diminishes."

Matthew Reed, chief executive of The Children’s Society, added: "When we first saw Firebird at Hampstead Downstairs, we were bowled over… It is fantastic that the play is opening in the Trafalgar Studios, which will help raise awareness about this terrible truth."

Firebird was recently free-streamed on Time Out to support The Children’s Society’s ‘Seriously Awkward’ campaign which urges the government to strengthen the law for protection of young people in risk of sexual exploitation.

Firebird runs at Trafalgar Studios from 22 February to 19 March 2016.
