A few of my favourite things: Birdsong's Max Bowden

From Nando’s to Jack O’Connell, we chat to the ”Waterloo Road” star to find out some of his favourite things

You may have seen Max Bowden on screen as Justin Fitzgerald in Waterloo Road, now you can see him on stage as Tipper/Gregoire in the UK Tour of Birdsong.

We caught up with Max to find out a few of his favourite things.

Film

My favourite film is probably Silver Linings Playbook. I think the on-screen chemistry between Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence is infectious and the fragility of both of their situations is easy to watch.

Place to hang out in London?

Covent Garden without a doubt. Especially around Christmas time when the tree is up, the square is always lively and has a great atmosphere.

Restaurant? (What would you order?)

Favourite restaurant is probably Nando’s (guilty). The double chicken breast burger with halloumi cheese is a belter.

Holiday Destination?

I love the Costa Del Sol in Spain. Often we go there with family and it never disappoints.

Play/Musical that you have seen?

Best play I've seen for a long time was Let The Right One In at the Royal Court. The lad who played Oskar [Martin Quinn] was outstanding and it always helps when you sympathise with the protagonist.

Actress/Actor?

Tom Hardy and Jack O’Connell are my favourite actors. They both have this rawness to all their performances which I think I can empathise with within their characters. Jack O’Connell has an underlying vulnerability as well, which I think is awesome.

Theatre to Visit?

Favourite theatre to visit is the Royal Court, some of the best plays I have seen have started at the Royal Court before transferring. I like the material that goes in there, often controversial and challenging of taboo subjects.

Theatre you’ve performed in?

Richmond Theatre, and lucky enough to be heading back there this year with Birdsong!

Moment in Birdsong?

I think the most powerful moment in Birdsong is the letter writing scene where we see how these soldiers are just people like you and I, no glorification or idea that they are heroes, they are just people and it's very moving.
