WhatsOnStage Award-winner and star of ''Half a Sixpence'' Charlie Stemp will make his Broadway debut as Barnaby Tucker in "Hello, Dolly!" from January next year, it has been announced.

Starring opposite Bernadette Peters and Victor Garber, Stemp will take on the role of Tucker from 20 January, ahead of an opening night on 22 February. Taylor Trensch, who was recently announced as one of Ben Platt's successors in Dear Evan Hansen, is currently performing in the role.

Stemp is most well known for his performance as Arthur Kipps in Half a Sixpence, for which our review called him a star in the making.

Before he leaves for New York, Stemp will star as the titular in the Palladium's pantomime, Dick Whittington. Tickets for the show are now on sale.

Directed by Tony Award-winner Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, "Hello, Dolly!" opened in April of this year at the Shubert Theatre, and went on to win four Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical (Bette Midler), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Gavin Creel), and Best Costume Design of a Musical (Santo Loquasto).

The show is based on Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker, and first debuted on Broadway over 50 years ago.

Further tickets for the show go on sale on 9 September.
