Last night marked the 1000th performance of Sam Mendes' stage adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

The show opened in June 2013 with Douglas Hodge as Willy Wonka. Jonathan Slinger became the eccentric chocolate factory owner earlier this year.

Producers have also announced a six month run extension until 3 December 2016. Mendes directed the musical, which has music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman. Scottish playwright David Greig wrote the book.

The 1000th performance milestone happened to coincide with Chocolate Week, which takes place between 12 – 18 October.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory released this mini video last night.

It's the 1,000th performance of #CharlieChoc! We can think of 1,000 ways to celebrate… Hundreds & Thousands!
