Catherine Tate leads cast of Assassins at Menier Chocolate Factory

The actress and comedian will join Jamie Lloyd’s production for a limited run, and others in the cast include Andy Nyman and Mike McShane

Catherine Tate will lead the cast of Jamie Lloyd's Assassins which opens at the Menier Chocolate Factory on 21 November 2014.

Tate will play Sara Jane Moore in the show until 8 February, with her replacement for the rest of the run until 7 March 2015 to be announced.

She is joined in the cast by Carly Bawden (My Fair Lady, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) as "Squeaky" Fromme, Simon Lipkin (Rock of Ages, I Can't Sing!) as The Proprietor, Mike McShane (Little Shop of Horrors, La Cage Aux Folles) as Samuel Byck, Andy Nyman (Abigail's Party, Terrible Advice) as Charles Guiteau and David Roberts (Ghost the Musical, Mamma Mia!) as Leon Czolgosz, with full casting to be announced.

Catherine Tate is known to TV audiences for The Catherine Tate Show, Doctor Who and Big School, among others. Her theatre credits include Much Ado About Nothing (Wyndham's) and Under the Blue Sky (Duke of York's).

Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's Tony Award-winning musical looks at various historical figures who have assassinated, or tried to, American Presidents.

Directed by Jamie Lloyd, it has set and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting by Neil Austin, sound by Gregory Clarke, musical supervision and direction by Alan Williams and hair and make-up by Richard Mawbey.
