Casting announced for National Theatre's Oslo
Principal casting was today announced for the 2017 Tony Award-winning production of J.T Rogers‘ Oslo, performing first at the National Theatre in September before transferring to the Harold Pinter Theatre from October to December. The show charts the back channel negotiations that culminated in the 1990s Oslo Peace Accords between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization.
Screen and stage actor Toby Stephens, whose theatre credits include Private Lives at Chichester Festival Theatre and West End, will play the role of Norwegian social-scientist Terje Rød-Larsen. He is joined by Lydia Leonard as diplomat and wife Mona Juul. Leonard was nominated for a 2017 Tony Award for her performance in Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies.
Directed by Bartlett Sher, Oslo follows Rød-Larsen and Juul attempts to conduct high-level meetings between different political factions as they seek to broker a form of peace. Since opening at the Lincoln Center, the show has won in every 'Best Play' category on Broadway.
Peter Polycarpou joins Stephens and Leonard as Ahmed Qurie, former Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority. Further casting includes Geraldine Alexander, Philip Arditti, Thomas Arnold, Nabil Elouahabi, Paul Herzberg, Karoline Gable, Anthony Shuster, Daniel Stewart and Howard Ward. Further casting is also to be announced.
Oslo runs at the National Theatre's Lyttelton on 5 September before transferring to the Harold Pinter Theatre from 3 October to 30 December.
