Casting for the world premiere of Emma Donoghue's stage adaptation of her novel Room at Theatre Royal Stratford East has been announced.

Room is about Ma, who was kidnapped and locked inside a room for seven years, and her five-year-old son Jack who has no concept of the outside world. Ma uses games to develop her son's imagination in the room where his only friends are Rug, Lamp and TV.

Witney White (wonder.land) plays Ma and Liam McKenna (Flowering Cherry) will play Old Nick. Lucy Tregear will play Grandma, Stephen Casey plays Grandpa/Doctor and Fela Lufadeju plays Big Jack.

The role of Little Jack will be shared by Darmani Eboji, Taye Kassim Junaid-Evans and Harrison Wilding.

The production features music and lyrics from Cora Bissett, who is the artistic director of Pachamama, and Scottish songwriter Kathryn Joseph. Bissett also directs the piece.

Room was adapted into a film in 2015 starring Brie Larson, who went on to win an Oscar for Best Actress for the role.

Room runs at Theatre Royal Stratford East from 10 May to 3 June, with previews from 2 May.
