The winners of the first Creative Green Awards have been announced at a ceremony at Somerset House, with theatre organisations victorious in four of the nine awards.

Presented by Caroline Lucas, co-leader of the Green Party, the awards are the only multi-arts awards that recognise the contribution of the creative industries to climate change.

Among the winners were the Lyric Hammersmith (Highest Achievement for Commitment), Sheffield Theatres Trust (Highest Achievement for Understanding), the Soho Theatre (Highest Achievement for Improvement), Young Vic Theatre (Best Performing Arts Venue) and the Donmar Warehouse (Best Office).

On the organisation that runs the awards, Lucas said: "Julie’s Bicycle is an incredibly inspiring organisation who make a real difference when it comes to environmental action. The creative community can have such a huge impact on our approach to sustainability."

Creative Green is a certification that enables organisations in the cultural sector to assess their environmental commitment, understanding and improvement.
