Results: Your top five books to be adapted for the stage

On World Book Day, we see which books you voted for in our poll

1. Harry Potter

Ok, ok, so there are technically seven books in one here, and there's a rumoured prequel in the works, but just think how epic it could be to see the boy wizard's adventures played out on stage. Quidditch at the Queen's? Dementors in the dress circle? We'd particularly like to see how they'd apparate using the magic of theatre.

2. The Night Circus

Erin Morgenstern's Victorian fantasy novel might be one of the trickiest stagings to pull off of your top five choices, but we can't imagine a better immersive theatrical experience than the multitude of circus tents dreamed up by Morgernstern. Punchdrunk anyone?

3. Holes

What fun a designer could have recreating Camp Green Lake, where juvenile convicts dig holes in the dirt all day. Add in intertwining tales of family curses and the history of the town, and you've got all you need for a great piece of theatre.

4. The Notebook

So the film of Nicholas Sparks's book actually left us weeping in the cinema for a good ten minutes – you just can't beat a good love story, and we reckon a stage adaptation would be beautiful. Particularly if Ryan Gosling was involved.

5. Fifty Shades of Grey

Possibly not one for younger audiences, this one, but if E.L. James's erotic romances can be turned into multi-million pound films then why not bring them to the theatre? They have already been parodied at the Edinburgh Fringe and beyond. Just don't go with your mum.
