Initial details for Bananaman the Musical announced

Forget ”Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark”, there’s a new superhero coming to the UK

Producers have today announced the initial details for a new musical based on everyone's favourite fruit-based superhero, Bananaman.

Described as 'part fond parody of the super-hero genre, part riotous comic slapstick', Bananaman the Musical will mark the live action debut of the 'Man-of-Peel'.

Bananaman started fighting crime in 1980, before transferring to The Dandy and then The Beano in 2012. The popular TV cartoon ran between 1983 and 1986 for 40 episodes and featured the voices of Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie.

The show, written and composed by Leon Parris (Wolfboy, Monte Cristo), will be directed by Fred Perry (Cinderella – Boom or Bust!) with choreography from Grant Murphy (Saturday Night Fever).

Further details will be announced at an industry launch with banana-based cocktail reception on February 2 2016.
