Anthony Biggs is to step down as the artistic director of Jermyn Street Theatre.

He has been in charge at the venue since 2013, and has produced work by British authors such as JB Priestley, Terence Rattigan and A.A. Milne, as well as musicals including See What I Wanna See, Closer Than Ever and I’m Getting My Act Together and Taking it on the Road.

Biggs championed artists’ rights and signed the theatre up to the Equity Fringe Agreement, which guaranteed performers were paid at least the minimum wage.

Tom Littler will take on the role of artistic director in the spring.

On leaving his post, Biggs said: "I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved over the past five years, especially the international seasons and the introduction of the Equity Fringe Agreement.

"It’s been a joy and a privilege to lead this special theatre, and I’m looking forward to pursuing new projects. I leave the theatre in very capable hands, and I wish Tom every success for the future."

Littler is currently an associate director at Jermyn Street, and has worked as an associate director at Theatre503 and the Peter Hall Company, as well as being the founding artistic director of theatre company Primavera for ten years.

He said: "I’m overjoyed to take on this role at my favourite studio theatre. Jermyn Street Theatre is an art-house jewel in the West End’s crown and Anthony is handing on a thriving, much-loved venue.

Littler will present his first season at the venue this autumn.
