Andrew Scott WhatsOnStage Awards acceptance speech: 'It was an honour to play Hamlet'

The actor accepted the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Play Revival

The Almeida's production of Hamlet won Best Play Revival at the WhatsOnStage Awards last night and Andrew Scott sent us a message to accept the award.

He said: "It was absolutely our intention that it would be a production for everybody and accessible financially for everybody. So thank you Sonia Friedman and ATG for making that possible"

"We also wanted to make it accessible emotionally and psychologically. It means so much to us that actual theatregoers, no matter what their backgrounds, appreciated it in the way they did. So thank you to everybody who came, I saw a huge amount of people from around the globe… it was an honour of a lifetime to get to be part of it."

Juliet Stevenson, who played Gertrude in the production, won Best Supporting Actress in a Play and said of the show's appeal to a wide audience: "Every night the conversation was different, here is to the audiences."
