Andrew Dunn is to join the cast of The Railway Children to play Mr Perks from 24 June.

E. Nesbit’s novel, adapted by Mike Kenny, opened at the King’s Cross Theatre on 14 January 2015 under Damian Cruden's direction.

Dunn has acting credits including Dinnerladies and Coronation Street, and also appeared onstage in Brassed Off and The Full Monty.

The cast also includes Caroline Harker, Louise Calf, Clare Corbett, Jack Hardwick, Mark Hawkins, Connie Hyde, Andrew Loudon, Serena Manteghi, Blair Plant and Moray Treadwell, plus a children’s ensemble.

A purpose built 1,000-seat theatre, complete with a railway track and platforms, has been created behind King’s Cross Station. The York Theatre Royal production, which is in association with the National Railway Museum, features a live steam locomotive and a vintage carriage.

The Railway Children tells the story of Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis whose lives change dramatically when their father is mysteriously taken away. They move from London to rural Yorkshire where they discover a railway at the end of the garden which is the first step to many adventures.

The Railway Children runs at Kings Cross Theatre until September 6 2015.
