Plays cast: Francesca Annis in Donmar's Versailles and complete casting for Hampstead's Rapture, Blister, Burn

Francesca Annis will join the cast of Versailles at the Donmar Warehouse next February.

Annis joins the previously announced Helen Bradbury, Barbara Flynn, Tom Hughes, Tamla Kari, Gwilym Lee, Josh O'Connor, Simon Williams and Eleanor Yates in Peter Gill's new play, which opens on 27 February (previews from 20 February). Also joining the cast is Christopher Godwin (This House), Selina Griffiths (Hotel in Amsterdam), Edward Killingback (The Low Road) and Adrian Lukis (Pygmalion).

Francesca Annis has most recently been seen in The Machine, directed by Josie Rourke, artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse in a collaboration between the Donmar, Manchester International Festival (MIF) and Park Avenue Armory. She has appeared in many West End productions and films previously, with highlights including Time and the Conways (National), Under the Blue Sky, Revolver, The Libertine and Jane Eyre.

The play, one of a number marking the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the 1914-18 conflict next year, centres on a young English man who is sent to partake in the controversial peace treaty that was signed in 1919.

Versailles will be performed alongside a series of talks, Impossible Conversations. The series of events will "allow some of today's most respected minds to talk about the Great War and its legacy". Those involved include Shami Chakrabarti, A.C. Grayling, Max Hastings, Susie Orbach and Ahdaf Soueif.

Versailles will run from 20 February to 5 April 2014.

The full cast has now been announced for the Hampstead Theatre's upcoming production of Rapture, Blister, Burn starring the previously announced Emilia Fox which will run from 22 January to 22 February 2014 (previews from 16 January).

Fox will be joined by Polly Adams (Legal Fictions, Kisna and A Woman of the North), Emma Fielding (Two times Olivier Award Nominee, The King's Speech-West End, The Game, and Fast Girls), Adam James (Last Chance Harvey, Miranda, The Ark and Broken Lines), and Shannon Tarbet (Skane, Monroe, A Promise).

Rapture, Blister, Burn is about two girls, Catherine and Gwen. After university Catherine and Gwen chose opposite paths: Catherine built a career as a rock-star academic, while Gwen built a home with a husband and children. Decades later each woman covets the other’s life, and a dangerous game begins as each tries to claim the other’s territory.

Gina Gionfriddo‘s previous plays include Becky Shaw (Almeida Theatre) and After Ashley (Vineyard Theatre). The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize winner has also written extensively for television including Law & Order and House of Cards. Rapture, Blister, Burn was a 2013 Pulitzer Prize finalist.
