Spider-Man turned off on Broadway, Las Vegas run planned

The comic book musical will reportedly close in January after a trouble-hit three year run

Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, the most expensive musical in Broadway history, has posted closing notices.

The $75million show, which premiered at Broadway's Foxwoods Theatre in June 2011 following over six months of previews, will shutter in January 2014. Featuring music by U2's Bono and the Edge, it was originally directed by The Lion King's Julie Taymor.

Spokesperson Rick Miramontez said: "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark will be ending its historic Broadway run in January 2014. We are excited to report that the next destination for Spider-Man will be the entertainment capital of the world: Las Vegas. Further details will be announced in the weeks to come."

The show has rarely been out of the headlines since it opened, due largely to the high number of injuries sustained by cast members.

Australian musical King Kong is rumoured to be replacing Spider-Man at the Foxwoods, which was recently bought by Ambassador Theatre Group.
