Robert Lindsay and Rufus Hound star in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels musical at Savoy next year
Award-winning actor Robert Lindsay and comedian Rufus Hound are set to star in the musical version of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Savoy Theatre from March 2014.
The production, which will mark Lindsay's first musical performance for sixteen years, is helmed by Broadway director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell, whose credits include Legally Blonde the Musical, Love Never Dies and Kinky Boots with designs from Peter McKintosh.
Mitchell choreographed the original production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which has music and lyrics by David Yazbek and a book by Jeffrey Lane, on Broadway in 2005. It is based on the 1988 film starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin, and tells the story of two conmen competing to swindle money from an American heiress.
Robert Lindsay is known for his varied roles on stage and screen. His musical theatre credits include Me and My Girl and Oliver!, and other stage credits include Becket, The Entertainer and The Lion in Winter. TV credits include more than a decade playing Ben Harper in sitcom My Family, Jericho and Falcon.
Comedian Rufus Hound made his stage debut in Utopia at the Soho Theatre earlier this year. He has since starred in One Man, Two Guvnors at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and on tour, and appeared in Neville's Island in Chichester. He co-hosted the 2013 WhatsOnStage Awards with Mel Giedroyc.
They will be joined in the cast by Katherine Kingsley, who is currently playing Helena in Michael Grandage's Midsummer Night's Dream at the Noel Coward Theatre. Her other theatre credits include Singin' in the Rain (Chichester/West End), Relative Values (UK Tour) and Aspects of Love (Menier).
The production will run at the Savoy Theatre from 10 March 2014, following runs at Manchester Opera House (12-22 February) and Aylesbury's Waterside Theatre (26 February – 1 March). It will follow Beatles tribute show Let It Be, which is playing at the Savoy Theatre until 8 February 2014.
