Arlene Phillips Joins Board of Sadler’s Wells

After being dumped by Strictly Come Dancing for no obvious reason other than her age, Arlene Phillips continues to prove her worth with the announcement that she will be joining the board of directors of Sadler’s Wells, the dance theatre.

Phillips said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the team at Sadler’s Wells at this incredibly exciting time for dance. The quality of work by the theatre is exceptional, and the range of work presented truly reflects the spectrum of what dance has to offer.”

The Sadler’s Wells appointment is one of many since the 66-year-old Phillips left Strictly Come Dancing. She has been confirmed as a judge on the UK launch of the popular American series, So You Think You Can Dance, presented by Cat Deeley, and has also been made a member of the Government’s new Dance Champions Group.

Phillips’s long career includes the choreography for west end shows including Starlight Express, We Will Rock You, and Saturday Night Fever. She has also worked in film, including the John Huston-directed Annie.

Her many awards include several Oliviers and she is a Tony Award nominee. Phillips, who is an OBE, will be remembered by many for her troupe Hot Gossip and its regular appearances on the Kenny Everet Show on ITV.
